Gabby Brown, Graduate Vice-Chairperson
Liam Thompson, Undergraduate Vice-Chairperson
Liam is the 2025-2026 Undergraduate Vice-Chair, marking the third year he has served on the SAC. He is a meteorology and environmental sustainability major with active projects with the SC CASC and SURF Lab at the University of Oklahoma. One of the things Liam is passionate about is educational quality and environment within the SoM. He operates on a philosophy that you cannot fix what is wrong if you do not know what is wrong. Liam’s research experiences have taught him the importance of co-producing knowledge. Now, he hopes to transfer these skills to co-produce educational outcomes. As Liam starts his 3rd year on the SAC, he hopes to start bridging the objectives of the school with the needs of the students. Part of this mission involves actively seeking the feedback of the student body but also asking the fundamental question of “who needs this and what are the goals.” Liam is excited to bridge and apply the skills he has developed from his commitment to AMS and CIWRO committees, and he is excited to work on developing a more unified school and community.
Kathryn is a PhD student in the School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma, serving as the 2025 - 2026 external affairs coordinator. She grew up near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor’s from Penn State University in geography in 2020, and her Master’s from University of Delaware in 2023 in geography, researching climate science. She is researching the modeling and predictability of atmospheric blocking events in the mid-latitudes. Outside of research, she is involved in the School of Meteorology outreach group, which helps educate elementary school students on weather and science. She is excited to plan events and get students involved in events this year!
Kathryn Giesa, External Affairs Coordinator
Emma Miller, Treasurer
Emma is a graduate student in the School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma and the Advanced Radar Research Center. She is originally from Milan, Indiana and received her Bachelor's of Sciences in Atmospheric Science and Planetary Sciences from Purdue University in 2023. She moved to Norman to pursue wildfire related research, and her thesis focuses on classifying wildland fire related scatterers using radar data. She will start her PhD in Fall 2025, working on novel observations of prescribed fires and other wildfire related projects in collaboration with CIWRO. The 2025-2026 academic year will be her second year on SAC as treasurer, and she’s excited to continue to support all of SAC’s endeavors financially!
Billy is a third-year PhD student in OU’s School of Meteorology. Hailing from rural Granville, Illinois, his interest in meteorology began with a surprise tornado impact through town in 2004. He has since felt a ceaseless passion for convective and severe storm dynamics, leading to his graduate work with CIWRO and NSSL studying the predictability and dynamics of supercell storms. He attended Illinois Valley Community College before completing his B.S. in Meteorology at Northern Illinois University in 2021. In 2023, he earned his M.S. in Atmospheric Science from Texas Tech University before transferring to OU for his Ph.D. Throughout his graduate studies, he has been thrilled to partake in a number of field projects to observe severe storms. At OU, he has fulfilled his desire for involvement in teaching, outreach, and service activities, and he hopes to ride this momentum through a 2nd year as SAC Secretary.
Billy Faletti, Secretary
Shu-Hsuan Lin, International Representative
Shu-Hsuan is a Ph.D. student in the School of Meteorology (SoM) at the University of Oklahoma, running for International Representative. Originally from Taiwan, she is passionate about understanding tropical climate systems. Her current research focuses on the tropical-stratospheric interactions and the role of cloud radiative feedback. Beyond research, Shu-Hsuan is enthusiastic about cultural exchange and community engagement. With a back ground in education from the Teaching Education Program at the National Taiwan Normal University, she is actively involved in the SoM’s outreach group, helping to develop science curricula and engage in school visits for elementary students.
Cyrus is a Junior undergraduate student in the School of Meteorology. Additionally to meteorology, they are working to receive minors in art, sociology, and math. Cyrus is working with multiple clubs across and outside of schooling: They are Vice President of External Affairs for OU SCAN, Board for A&GS’s Laminar, a member in two AMS student committees, and a participant in OWL and the OU printmaking club. They are also participating in social research within CAPS, which they intend to pursue further. In addition to their interests and educational pursuits, Cyrus values fostering engagement and connection in the meteorology community and beyond into multidisciplinary fields.
